Home About Us
Okay, first off, "us" is really just me - Michael Holland. I've lived in Bangkok, Thailand since 1992, and have been writing on-line travel guides such as Asia for Visitors and others for more than 10 years. I started this site soon after first learning to dive. It's what I do.
Why start another web guide to dive sites? Good question. There are several good web sites around, with some detailed information about the dive sites, but they tend to skip over some important details, like how to get there. Web sites for dive operators make it clear how to get to sites, but they also tend to tell you only about the sites they visit, which is fair enough.
From my point of view, as a travel writer and newbie scuba diver, none of the available sites really pulled together everything I wanted to know. So, it seemed to me that there was an opportunity here to create a site that married the wealth of travel information I already have for many major diving destinations with information about dive sites and operators in these places. The goal is to create a one-stop-shop site that not only gives you good ideas about what dive sites might be best for you, but can also provide guidance on which operators go there, how to get there, where to stay, and so on.
I also want to make the site as interactive as possible, yet keep it from being so "crowd-sourced" that you're not sure what you can trust. Users are invited to leave their own comments about each dive site, although each posting will need to be reviewed before it is displayed.
Making this site into one of the best dive site guides on the web is going to take a lot of work. Specifically, it's going to take a lot of diving. I guess you could say that's the "good news". The bad news being that making all those dives is going to cost a bit of money, and not being Bill Gates, it might take me a while to get to all the sites I'd like to cover. If you're a dive shop or dive operator, you can help by sponsoring a dive site.
