Coconut Octopus Longarm Octopus Mimic octopus Reef Octopus Starry Night Octopus Reef Octopus Also called: day octopus Scientific name: Species Octopus cyanea The “day octopus” name comes from the fact that you can find them during the daytime rather than at night. The one in the photograph was one of a pair we came across in Lembeh, and was quite curious. It was easy to coax it out of it's hiding place, where it observed us critically. It's friend nearby was more reserved and would do nothing more than turn a darker shade of red when I put my light on it. Close Longarm Octopus Scientific name: Species Abdopus These guys are very difficult to photograph, since their coloring blends in so well with the sandy bottom where they live. Close Coconut Octopus Scientific name: Amphioctopus marginatus These little guys are definitely one of the highlights of diving around Lembeh. They can be found in the daytime and are quite curious, so they can sometimes be lured out of their hiding places, especially with the bribe of new shells. Close Starry Night Octopus Scientific name: Callistoctopus luteus These spectacularlly colored octopus are only seen at night when they come out to hunt. Close Mimic octopus Scientific name: CThaumoctopus mimicus This rare little long-armed octopus is one of many unique octopus only found in the Lembeh area. Close
