?? Pipefish
Scientific name: Corythoichthys
I haven't pinned down exactly which pipefish this is, but I believe I have the right family. Best guess is it's a Shultz's.
Pygmy Seahorse
Scientific name: Hippicampus bargibanti
We spotted both the bright pink as well as yellow pygmy seahorses around Sumbawa and Komodo in 2010. This picture of a yellow one is the best I got.
Short Tailed Pipefish
Scientific name: Trachyramphus bicoacrtatus
Robust Ghost Pipefish
Scientific name: Solenostomus cyanopterus
Ornate Ghost Pipefish
Scientific name: Solenostomus paradoxus
These intricately shaped little fellows come in an amazing range of colors.
Common Seahorse
Scientific name: Hippicampus kuda
Seahorses are one of those creatures you're always happy to find. They're so small and generally so well camouflaged that it's often hard to spot them even when you know you're looking at one. This one was found under the Fredricksburg Pier in St. Croix.
